Elite DB jelling with Billy Napier, Corey Raymond: ‘They said they are going to come at me hard’

Anquon Fegans Florida Gators

Although he just recently de-committed from USC, life could not be going any better for Anquon Fegans.

The 2025 defensive back and his teammates at Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson are 7-1 on the season, while the All-American himself is witnessing growth and living up to the hype as a national recruit.

So far this season, Fegans has racked up 48 tackles (30 solo), three interceptions, six pass deflections and two forced fumbles from his safety position.

The On3 Industry Ranking labels him the No. 3 safety and No. 33 prospect regardless of position.

“It’s been going pretty good,” Fegans told Gators Online. “Me and the guys, we are going out there week in and week out competing. We are going to get our end goal. It’s been going pretty good.”

The Gators are fully committed to Fegans’ recruitment

Even though his brother, Tre’Quon Fegans, suits up for the Trojans after transferring in from Alabama, Anquon still thought he rushed his recruitment. The Trojans are still a top option, but this recruitment is now wide open heading into November.

One of those schools now trying to make a serious run at Fegans is the University of Florida. It was back in August when the blue-chip defender earned his scholarship offer.

The Alabama native has yet to experience the Swamp firsthand but is having positive discussions from afar with secondary coach Corey Raymond.

In fact, when asked about his overall interest in the Gators, Fegan responded with just two words: Corey Raymond.

“I like them; I like them,” Fegans said of the Gators. “I talk to the guys every Friday. They always wish me good luck, so I feel like that’s a good thing to get the relationship started.

“Me and coach Raymond, we speak; me and (assistant DBs) coach (CJ) Wilford, coach Napier hits me up every few days…I’m just trying to build a relationship with the guys.”

Like most defensive backs in the know, Fegans has nothing but praise for Corey Raymond and everything he has accomplished to this point.

“He’s one of the best in the game for sure,” Fegans said. “They said they are going to come at me hard and not going to stop trying.”

Florida will receive an honest look from the out-of-state target

A trip to the Swamp is not scheduled; however, Fegans plans to take a hard look at his calendar in hopes of securing a date.

If the visit takes place during the season, it would likely be for the FSU game on Nov. 25. Arkansas comes to Gainesville next weekend, but Fegans did not mention that game. It would also be a quick turnaround since the game kicks off at noon.

All in all though, the Gators have as good of a shot to land Fegans as anybody right now.

“Every team is on an even playing field with me right now,” said Fegans. “Nobody is too high; nobody is too low. The schools I talk to and communicate with, they are all right there with me.”

Stay tuned to Gators Online.
