Let’s get to it, the latest recruiting intel from top prospects in the 2024 class.
Four-Star PF Derik Queen
The Buzz: Derik Queen has issued a top four schools. Kansas, Indiana, Maryland, and Houston are the four. One source recently told me that Indiana will be tough to beat. Among other things, the source cited that Indiana Pacers rookie Jarace Walker, who also played for Queen’s Team Thrill program, was close in proximity to Bloomington. Another source told me recently that the Maryland traction is real, and they have made a push. The Team Thrill program is sponsored by Under Armour, as is Maryland. A source said they expect these two schools to be the top two. One thing to note is that Queen, a Maryland native, is high school teammates with Liam McNeeley, who is committed to Indiana. Continue to monitor for a commitment date.
Four-Star C Patrick Ngongba
The Buzz: Patrick Ngongba issued a top three recently that included Kentucky, Duke, and Kansas State. The Fairfax (VA) Paul VI big man has taken all of his official visits and a decision should come soon. Heading into the visits, one source told me that Kansas State would be tough to beat here. Going through his visits, Duke and Kentucky made an impression enough to get into his top group. One source told me recently that Kentucky would take Ngongba with Somto Cyril already in the class. Coming off his final visit this weekend, to Kansas State, I am hearing positive things about the Wildcats. One source also told me that Duke was making a push. He is set to commit on Saturday.
Four-Star C Daniel Jacobsen
The Buzz: Daniel Jacobsen burst on the scene while playing at Greenville (SC) Legacy Early College on the NIBC last season. He continued that momentum with the JL3 program on Nike’s EYBL Circuit which led him to be an On3 four-star when he reclassified to the 2025 class and transferred to Wolfeboro (NH) Brewster Academy. When word got out that Jacobsen could come out in 2024 school started to recruit him as such. One source told me recently that Purdue had confidence heading into the decision on Friday. Wisconsin and Purdue are listed as the finalists.
Four-Star SG Vyctorius Miller
The Buzz: Vyctorius Miller recorded official visits to Oregon, USC, and LSU. While Miller lives in California, his family is from Baton Rouge. One source said recently that LSU had confidence. Intel suggests a commitment should be coming before the start of the early signing period.
Four-Star PF Nic Codie
The Buzz: Nic Codie has taken nine official visits since June. Two to Houston, two to TCU, and then visits to Miami, LSU, Virignia Tech, Auburn, and Texas. Going into the visits, multiple sources said Houston carried the momentum here. As things progressed, one source said that Texas was making a push. The Longhorns talk heated up around his official visit to Austin in September. Codie continued to take visits. Codie visited Miami in October. One source told me early in the process to watch for the Miami visit. Coming out of the official, a different source said that Miami had some building confidence. His most recent visit was to Auburn, a source around the recruitment said that the visit went better than expected, and there was positive intel coming out of the weekend. Auburn got the last visit. Codie is set to pick a school on October 2. Intel could be scarce here as it would not be surprising if Codie does not tell anyone where he is going, prior to his commitment.
Four-Star SF Jaxon Johnson
The Buzz: Jaxon Johnson has a final four that includes USC, BYU, Stanford, and Utah. One source told me before his visits that it is really tough to pull Utah kids out of Utah for college and to watch for Utah and BYU here. Another source said recently that Utah had confidence coming out of their official visit in September. BYU has traditionally had recruiting success with players from Utah, and their visit was the weekend after Utah. He has set his commitment for October 2.
Three-Star PG Casmir Chavis
The Buzz: Casmir Chavis recently announced his top four schools, West Virginia, Washington, Georgia, and Arizona State. Listed as a four-star by On3, the Minneapolis (MN) Park Center guard has taken an official visit to Washington. One source recently told me there was confidence in the Huskies here. Arizona State was also mentioned here recently. Continue to watch if he sets any other last-minute trips and for a commitment date.
