Huge recruiting weekend on tap for Auburn as Tigers host Tide in annual Iron Bowl
Auburn on Saturday hosts Alabama in its annual Iron Bowl matchup and dozens of top recruits are expected to attend.
Commitments, top targets and recruits committed elsewhere all will be there. The Tigers hope to take advantage of the final home game of the season, a game that is just 3.5 weeks out from the beginning of the early signing period on Dec. 20.
The visitors list is headlined by two five-star wide receivers in Cam Coleman and Ryan Williams.
Coleman, the No. 5 overall recruit in the country in 2024, will be back on campus for his eighth known visit to the Plains since Oct. 21. The Texas A&M commit continues to be the top remaining target for Auburn.
Coleman does not plan to make any formal decisions on his future until after his senior season ends. Central (Phenix City, Ala.) plays Mary-Montgomery in the state semifinals Friday night. However, Auburn has positioned itself nicely and is considered the team to beat by some close to his recruitment, including myself.
Williams is the No. 4 overall recruit in the 2025 class, but is heavily considering reclassifying to 2024. Saturday will be his third visit to Auburn this season. He’s a longtime Alabama commitment, but Auburn is working hard to flip him. Some close to his recruitment believe the Tigers have a good shot of making it happen.
Top OL targets visiting Auburn, again
Auburn’s top two offensive line targets are expected to be on campus Saturday. Four-star interior offensive lineman Coen Echols is returning for the first time this season after taking an official visit to Auburn in June. He arguably is the top remaining offensive line target for the Tigers. And like with Coleman, Auburn is making a strong move to flip his commitment from the Aggies. This weekend should only strengthen it.
Also expected back in Auburn is three-star tackle Favour Edwin. It will be Edwin’s third Auburn game this season and likely the last visit he takes before making a commitment.
Edwin, from McDonough, Ga., had planned to visit Clemson last weekend. The visit, however, was postponed until December. The postponement will not affect Edwin’s timeline for making a commitment. He now plans to announce his decision next week, possibly early next week. Auburn continues to be the frontrunner for him.
Auburn four-star offensive line commitment DeAndre Carter also will be on campus. He is making the trip from California to attend the game.
Top TE, RB targets could visit
Auburn’s top tight end target is Michael Smith, a four-star recruit from Savannah, Ga. Smith is committed to South Carolina, but the Tigers have been making a huge push. He has informed Auburn of his plan to attend the game on Saturday. It will be interesting to see if he actually shows. It could be indicative of the level of interest he has in the Tigers.
Four-star running back David Eziomume has visited Auburn twice this season despite being committed to Clemson. He has not indicated plans to return on Saturday, but it’s worth tracking to see if he does. It, too, could be indicative of his interest in Auburn. He appears to be the No. 1 back on Auburn’s board.
Former commit no longer visiting
Four-star cornerback Jalewis Solomon committed to Auburn in August only to flip his commitment to South Carolina in October. There was some renewed interest in the Tigers last week, as well as some quiet confidence from Auburn that it could flip him back.
However, that confidence is gone. Auburn talked with Solomon on Thursday. He informed them that he no longer plans to visit and that he feels good about his commitment to the Gamecocks. The Tigers will continue to recruit, but the confidence has dwindled significantly.
A relatively new name to watch is Cai Bates. The four-star corner from Florida plans to be at Auburn on Saturday. He recently de-committed from LSU and has expressed interest in Florida State, Tennessee and Auburn. The Seminoles are believed to be the team to beat right now, but Auburn is working to get in the game.
Another top DB target expected to visit is five-star safety KJ Bolden. He’s committed to Florida State, but has continued to show interest in Auburn. I still think it’s a long shot to flip him.
Auburn has commitments from four-star DBs Jalyn Crawford, A’Mon Lane-Ganus, Kensley Faustin and three-star Kaleb Harris, along with junior college safety Laquan Robinson. The Tigers will be very selective in adding any others. I think Auburn would add another elite recruit, but will not reach here. Guys like Bolden and/or Bates, yes, but I don’t expect AU to take someone just to fill a spot. The Tigers would fill the rest of their DB needs from the transfer portal.
