The Scoop: LSU WBB hosts pair of five-star prospects

LSU women’s basketball hosted two of its top targets for the 2024 class this weekend in Sarah Strong and Kate Koval. Strong is the No. 1 player in the 2024 class, while Koval is the No. 5 ranked prospect.

Here’s what we’ve heard about the visit after talking with sources on and around the program.

Sarah Strong

Strong was already very close with the coaching staff as well as current freshmen Mikaylah Williams and Aalyah Del Rosario, but it was her chance to meet the rest of the team, experience LSU, and then attend the football game. The entire experience seemed to go over well with Strong, who is naturally a quiet kid, in a new environment. At this point, Strong knows all there is to know about LSU and there’s still confidence that LSU is in the lead in her recruitment.

It does not appear Strong is in a hurry to make a decision, though. We initially believed Strong did not have any visits planned after LSU, but it seems she’s still open to visiting other schools during the fall. UConn is LSU’s main competition right now and will be until Strong makes her decision. I get the feeling she won’t be deciding until October, which is later than I expected after the past month or so.

LSU will be back to do another in-person visit in North Carolina in the near future as well. The Tigers are still in a good spot and are still in the lead by my read, but this stretching out a bit more is a new development.

Kate Koval

Koval’s brother is actually a grad student at LSU right now, so she was able to see him and they went to their first LSU game together with family. Her flight was initially delayed, but everything was good once she got on campus. By all accounts, the visit went great and she had a great time with the team.

Now, there’s some intrigue as to if Koval makes a decision this week or if she takes the visit to Notre Dame next week and takes more time to think it over. LSU is still in an excellent spot with Koval and feels even better after this visit.

Other notes

*** Five-star 2024 forward Joyce Edwards, the No. 2 player in the class, has changed her visit date to the weekend of the 22nd. Last week we were told it was going to be in November, but she’s changed the dates of her visits several times over the summer and fall. As I mentioned before, Stanford and South Carolina are the two other heavy contenders for Edwards. She’s already visited Maryland and Florida.

*** The 2025 class likely won’t be as big as the 2024 class, but there are still top-tier players on the Tigers’ board. Addison Deal, the No. 12 player in the 2025 class is visiting Oct. 21. The No. 1 player in the class, Aaliyah Chavez is visiting Oct. 14, and the No. 2 player in the class, Jasmine Davidson, is TBD at the moment, but a date is in the works.
