Packers to receive 2024 second-round pick from Jets after Aaron Rodgers season-ending injury
While Aaron Rodgers isn’t with the Packers anymore, the reverberations of his season-ending Achilles injury are being felt in Green Bay.
The Packers got a haul of draft capital for Rodgers, but they won’t be receiving any first round selections, not after the results of Monday night’s game between the Jets and Buffalo Bills. Rodgers had to play 65% of New York’s offensive snaps in 2023 for the Packers to receive a first, but we now know that won’t be the case.
Instead, Green Bay will receive New York’s second round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, which could still be pretty valuable, if the Jets falter following the news of Rodgers’ injury.
“The Packers received the 13th, 42nd, and 207th picks in this year’s draft in exchange for Rodgers and the Packers’ 15th and 170th picks,” wrote Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “The Packers also received a 2024 draft pick from the Jets and the confirmation of Rodgers’ injury means that we now know which pick that will be.
“The Jets will send their second-round pick to Green Bay to complete the trade. It would have been a first-round selection had Rodgers played 65 percent of the Jets’ offensive snaps this season, but that obviously will not happen.”
Moreover, Rodgers’ injury occurred after Bills edge rusher Leonard Floyd sacked the Jets quarterback to the ground. He went into the blue medical tent after being helped off the field, following throwing just one pass in his Jets debut. He went back to the locker room on a cart and was out for the remainder of the game.
Afterwards, the former NFL MVP was wearing a boot on his left foot. Rodgers underwent x-rays on his ankle which were negative, but an MRI has confirmed the injury to his Achilles.
Now, the Jets will turn the keys back over to Zach Wilson, who helped lead the comeback on Monday Night Football, while reaching out to veteran free-agent quarterbacks.
New York found victory last night, but there’s a pit in every Jets fan’s stomach on Tuesday, as their superstar quarterback won’t be suiting up again in 2023.
As for the Packers, they’re in high sprits following Jordan Love’s performance in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears. The future is bright for Green Bay in their post-Aaron Rodgers era.
The questions remains whether or not Rodgers will even attempt a comeback, or if his last pass completed in the NFL will remain back in Week 18 at Lambeau Field.
