Intel on which recruits Notre Dame contacted at midnight on August 1
In year’s past as long as this writer can remember, the first day that college coaches were allowed to start directly contact high school junior prospects was on Sept. 1. But starting in the 2023-24 recruiting calendar, colleges can start reaching out on Aug. 1.
This isn’t to say that coaches weren’t able to speak at all with recruits in the 2025 class prior to Aug. 1 at midnight. But those conversations either had to take place on the college’s campus or when the player called the coach. But now, the coaches can text and call class of 2025 prospects.
One prospect it’s obvious the staff contacted today was Naples (Fla.) Lely’s Jayce Cora, an unranked 2025 prospect who we believe Notre Dame offered as a safety prospect.
The staff started communicating with players right midnight in the recruit’s time zone. It was full team effort between the Notre Dame coaches and recruiting office.
Here’s a list of who they contacted starting at midnight according to various sources (in alphabetical order). Note that this is not an exhaustive list. There are likely others they contacted.
Trenton (N.J.) Hun School LB Kamar Archie: Pot of Gold day offer by the Irish. Four-star recruit has seen his recruiting stock soar in recent months. Hasn’t visited Notre Dame yet.
Atlanta Woodward Academy WR Jerome Bettis Jr.: The son of Irish legend Jerome Bettis Sr. who looks be trending towards the Irish. Visited campus this past weekend.
Winston Salem (N.C.) Mount Tabor S Jadon Blair: Highly ranked prospect by On3 and one who visited campus over the weekend. Will be one to keep a close eye on moving forward.
New Rochelle (N.Y.) Iona Preparatory School OL Rowan Byrne: Yet another prospect who was at Notre Dame over the weekend for the staff’s “Grill and Chill” event. Notre Dame is a major player in this recruitment.
Culpeper (Va.) Eastern View LB Brett Clatterbaugh: Four-star prospect who visited South Bend back in April for the first time.
