Five-star OT David Sanders has ‘amazing’ first visit to Michigan
David Sanders saw his phone blow up on August 1, the first date college coaches were allowed to directly reach out to prospects in the 2025 recruiting class.
A five-star star offensive tackle out of Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day, Sanders is one of the most wanted recruits in America and heard from just about every top program you can think of.
“It was crazy,” Sanders said. “I didn’t even touch my phone the first day. The coaches were texting me two days later asking if I had gotten their texts. I was like ‘I got it, but I didn’t see it.’ Everything was coming in throughout the day.”
Schools like Alabama, Georgia, Clemson and South Carolina are considered some of the early frontrunners for Sanders. However, Michigan offered Sanders first and is making a big push in his recruitment.
Sanders made his first-ever trip to Ann Arbor for the BBQ at The Big House last month and enjoyed his time on campus.
“Michigan was amazing,” Sanders said. “I had an amazing time meeting Coach (Sherrone) Moore and Coach (Jim) Harbaugh. I definitely loved it — the team, the facilities and everything. It was an amazing visit.”
Michigan offensive line coach Sherrone Moore has been leading the way in Sanders’ recruitment and made a strong impression on him during the visit.
“I didn’t get to work out that day, but I loved all the technique he was using and all the fundamental work they were doing,” Sanders said. “He seems like a great guy and a great coach… I love Coach Moore. He’s very relatable as a person. It was a good opportunity to spend time with him. He calls me on a regular basis, which is good.”
Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh also met with Sanders and his family.
“Coach Harbaugh was amazing,” Sanders said. “He’s one of the best coaches I’ve met personality wise. We had a 30-minute meeting scheduled with him, and it went over an hour and a half. It just goes to show his personality and love for the game.”
The Wolverines are getting an assist in this recruitment thanks to 2024 commits Jadyn Davis and Channing Goodwin. Both play with Sanders at Providence Day and are working to get him to Michigan.
“They probably recruit me more than the coaches call me,” Sanders said with a laugh. “They see me every day at school, so it’s easy. I don’t think they really pressure it on me. They want me to make my decision like they made their decisions.”
Sanders is looking to make a return visit to Michigan this fall — potentially for the game against Ohio State in November.
At 6-foot-6, 250 pounds, Sanders is ranked as the No. 1 offensive tackle and No. 5 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking.
